Permanent – On-role
Job Description / Key Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Systems Engineer (Substation & Wind Systems) will be responsible for the design standardization and engineering of LV/MV/HV electrical systems, substation layouts, and hybrid interconnections involving solar and wind energy projects. The role requires expertise in substation design (66 kV to 400 kV), electrical balance of plant (EBoP), and integration of renewable generation systems into the grid. The candidate will also support vendor evaluation, pre-bid engineering, and technical coordination for hybrid and wind-inclusive projects across India.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Design & Standardization
Carry out HV/EHV substation designs (AIS type), including layout, SLDs, and electrical sections from 66 kV to 400 kV.
Develop standardized designs and templates for LV/MV/HV systems (LT panels, transformers, ICR/MCR, switchyards, and grid substations).
Prepare and guide design of SLDs, GA drawings, EKD, DSLP, earthing, cable routing, and illumination layouts.
Perform equipment sizing and calculations (short-circuit, earthing, lightning protection, CT/PT sizing, conductor and battery sizing).
Interface with protection, control, and SCADA systems for grid compliance and design coordination.
Prepare and review technical RFPs, BOQs, and technical bid evaluations ensuring cost and design optimization.
Coordinate with civil and mechanical design teams for multidisciplinary interfaces.
Wind Electrical Integration
Support wind-solar hybrid system design and integration, including electrical evacuation and hybrid switchyard configurations.
Evaluate wind turbine electrical systems, transformers, switchgear, and interconnection standards.
Review and interface WTG control and protection systems with solar and BESS assets in hybrid projects.
Conduct grid compliance checks, system loss calculations, and hybrid power evacuation studies.
Coordinate with wind OEMs, developers, and state utilities for project design and interconnection approvals.
Vendor Evaluation & Technical Coordination
Evaluate and qualify electrical equipment vendors (transformers, switchgear, cables, protection panels).
Review vendor datasheets, test certificates, and design compliance with IEC/IS/IEEE standards.
Support factory acceptance tests (FAT) and pre-dispatch inspections for major electrical components.
Collaborate with procurement and construction teams for material finalization and implementation readiness.
Project & Cross-functional Support
Provide pre-bid technical support including concept layouts, grid connection philosophy, and loss studies.
Work closely with D&E, Hybrid, and Quality teams to ensure design uniformity and optimization.
Maintain and continuously improve standard design libraries and documentation for future projects.
Education: B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical design within IPP, EPC, or OEM organizations, with mandatory hands-on experience in wind project electrical systems.
Technical Competencies:
Strong understanding of substation (66–400 kV) design, EBoP, and power evacuation systems.
Proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with ETAP, CYME, and CDEGS for electrical analysis.
Working knowledge of protection and control systems, grid integration, and hybrid system design.
Familiarity with relevant standards – IEC, IEEE, IS, CEA, and state grid codes.
Exposure to wind turbine electrical systems, MV collector circuits, and hybrid switchyards is essential.
Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
Adaptability:
Capable of working independently and managing multiple deliverables in a fast-paced renewable environment.
Exposure to multi-technology hybrid projects combining solar, wind, and storage systems.
Travel opportunities for vendor visits, inspections, and project site reviews.
Significant scope for career growth and technical specialization in hybrid renewable systems.
